Malted Milk Was Invented in Racine

William Horlick, who the field Gridiron Bowl XV is being played at is named for, invented malted milk and created one of the largest businesses in the world in the late-1800’s and early-1900’s.

Racine Was Home to an NFL Team

The Horlick-Racine Legion were members of the National Football League from 1922-1924. The Legion have the distinction of winning the only NFL game where one team scored exactly four points.

Windex and Pledge Were Invented Here

S.C. Johnson and Son is one of the largest manufacturers of home cleaning products in the world and started in Racine and still have their world headquarters here.

The Blender Was Invented in Racine

Stephen Poplawski, the owner of the Stevens Electric Company, began designing drink mixers in 1919 under a contract with Arnold Electric Company, and patented the drink mixer in 1922 which had been designed to make Horlick’s malted milkshakes at soda fountains.

Horlick Field Was Home to the Racine Belles

The Racine Belles played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1943-1950. The team won the first league championship and were the top-drawing team for attendance for several years. They won a second championship in 1946.

Disney Theme Parks Started in Racine

Well, kind of….Walt Disney wasn’t getting any investors in his idea and approached E.H. Wadewitz of Racine’s Western Publishing (Little Golden Books) for financing. He became the first investor and it allowed Disney to reach out to other companies, including NBC, to get financing for his dream.

Who will be playing in the game?

The winner of the Impact Conference and the Xtreme Conference of the Gridiron Developmental Football League (GDFL) will play in Gridiron Bowl XV for the national championship.

The Racine (WI) Raiders won the Xtreme Conference title with a 32-0 win over the Tri-City (TN) Outlaws. The Upstate (NY) Predators beat the Syracuse (NY) Strong 14-0.

Where will the game be played?

Gridiron Bowl XV will be played at Historic Horlick Athletic Field in Racine, Wisconsin. The field was an original NFL field and the likes of the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears have played there. It was also home to the Racine Belles, made famous by the movie A League of Their Own.

How can I get tickets and how much are they?

Tickets can be purchased through Hometown Tickets. There are no fees to buy tickets online and we encourage you to buy tickets in advance as we’re expecting a large crowd. You’ll also be able to buy tickets at the gate on the day of the game.

How much do tickets cost?

Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for for seniors (55+) and kids (6-17). Kids under six are free. Credit cards are not accepted at the ticket gate. Active duty military, military reservists, and veterans are free with appropriate identification. First responders are also free with identification.

Can I bring my own food and drink to the game?

Carry-ins aren’t allowed. There is a full concessions stand at the field with a variety of options. Beer and other alcoholic beverages are also sold at concessions. Concessions is cash-only.
